(b. 1977) Lives and works in Pargas, Turku Archipelago
Sandra Nyberg moves in her practice smoothly between painting, photography and collective environmental art projects. The young artist was trained in the Netherlands and Australia until she returned to her roots in the Turku Archipelago. She is a keen observer of the everyday and has examined in her work, for example, the small gestures that express how we inhabit our bodies and the surrounding spaces.
Nyberg's collaboration with the artist Heini Nieminen (as a collective Elin & Keino) has been an important aspect of her practice in the past few years. Their environmental and community art works are site-specific and temporary interventions that often work to make nature visible in the urban landscape and involve the audience in its processes.
The work of Nyberg has been seen in many exhibitions and art events in Finland as well as abroad, for example in Denmark, The Netherlands, Indonesia, Australia and China.
